Across the length and breadth of Honduran territory, which includes in some way, the maritime and insular zones, and which in addition to a rich biodiversity and a plurality of languages and forms of culture, there is also an enormous and significant range of names of place. These, with the great diversity already evoked, are an integral element of their own and our identity.

All sorts of names have been applied to it, removing from anonymity all that is found and proliferates in it. Thus, for example, we have the name "Honduras". The question, what is the origin of the name? What does it mean? In that same order we ask ourselves about the meaning of: Comayagua, Choluteca, Juticalpa, Tegucigalpa, Curaren, Guajiquiro, Gualcinse, Pirarea, Liure, Comayagüela, etc.; this is how one can remember, speak and refer to the realities surrounding women and men. This is how the origin, motivation and denomination of what today we call toponymy and/or place names appeared.
