The Misquitos: In 1687, Jeremiah I, King of the Miskitos, was crowned. He was succeeded by five kings crowned in Jamaica by the English Governor. The Misquitos came from Sumo-Tawaka along with Afro-descendants and English. They dominated the eastern coast of Honduras and northern Nicaragua. Allies of the English frequently attacked the Spanish possessions that remained in war footing, without much success, against these aggressors of their dominions. They exchanged wood and marine products for metal utensils, household goods and rum and were part of the smuggling network of English products that were sold on the Caribbean coast from Costa Rica to Honduras.
