In 1821 the provinces of Central America obtained their freedom from the Spanish Empire, this same year they were annexed to Mexico, this annexation lasted three years.
It was not until 1824 that the Federal Republic of Central America was created, which had a short duration and was dissolved in 1841. Dramatic art in Honduras was promoted by Jose Trinidad Reyes. From 1828 he was in charge of the diffusion of the culture, and he founded the national university in 1847.
Reyes wrote dramatic works that he called ''pastorelas''. It can be stated that they were the first theatrical works written in Central America. These were texts written in verse, and the characters were peasants. He himself performed his works with his students, organized festivals and walks. Reyes is influenced by the theater of Martinez de la Rosa. After the death of General Francisco Morazan in 1842, Salvadoran Francisco Diaz wrote a play entitled ''tragedia de Morazan'' (tragedy of Morazan) which was performed in several cities, in 1852 it was performed at the Yoro fair.
The researcher Romulo E Duron compiled ''las pastorelas'' by Jose trinidiad Reyes, which were presented in the villages.
Between 1860 and 1866 plays were presented in Comayagua (then, capital of Honduras) including one by Alejandro Dumas, played by student theater fans.
