Cave art is a type of art that is captured in rocks, usually inside caves, grottos or caverns, which is part of prehistoric art. For the variety of petroglyphs or drawings engraved in stone, or in rocky shelters, a thematic classification has been proposed, these go from the appreciation of images with content on: the terrestrial and marine fauna, deities, shamans, human beings, celestial bodies and anthropomorphic figures.

In Honduras most rock art consists of petroglyphs ranging from simple faces engraved on boulders to complex sets of figures on large panels or rock walls. Disseminated by caves, rivers, grottos and gorges throughout the country, we find wonderful samples of cave art, perhaps the oldest evidence of the first settlers of present-day Honduras, which is the equivalent of saying that they are the originators of the ancient cultures that have developed in our territory.
