In the colonial period of the province of Honduras, the first cultural focus due to its position as the seat of the Audiencia de los Confines was Gracias a Dios. This situation lasted a period and its capacity of influence developed above all as an information and communication center of the Kingdom of Guatemala.

Later Comayagua became the most important political center of the province to be established as the Capital. Its jurisdiction reached a geographical understanding of what today are the north-central and south-western departments of the country. Later, the city of Tegucigalpa was formed and became the mayor's office, which included the town of Jerez de la Choluteca, reaching its limits as far as New Segovia, today Nicaragua.

What should be clear is that Tegucigalpa and Comayagua were the main centers of cultural concentration and influenced the events developed in the colonial period as well as the artistic manifestations marked by the religious spirit of that time.
